About Me!

me.bmp

I have been supporting people to succeed for many years! I currently work full-time at Seneca College. I am involved in the training of professors, teachers, and the general public on issues related to disability, assistive technology, and learning strategies. I enjoy the challenge of finding unique solutions that incorporate strategies and assistive technology to support students with disabilities on a daily basis. I have co-coordinated a transition program for students with Learning Disabilities. I am on a part-time secondment at Seneca with the Teaching and Learning Department at Seneca to work with faculty on adopting UDL strategies in their teaching.

My education includes an M.A. in Assistive Technology, a B.A. focus on special education, a Child Care Worker diploma; Special Needs, and a certificate in ASL interpretation. I also have additional training in AAC.

I have presented internationally and locally at multiple conferences on assistive technology, learning strategies and disability.

I currently am the Learning Strategist rep with CCAI (Ontario College Committee; Accessibility Issues).

In my free time, I connect with a number of community groups supporting marginalized persons.

Individuals

Need Individualized Strategies

You might have heard the expression,  “If you know a person with _____ (insert disability) you only know ONE person with _____ (insert same disability)”. My prescription for glasses is not the same as my friend’s. No two people with custom inserts for their wheelchairs have the same inserts. They have been customized to meet their individual needs. That’s how I approach each student. We need to work together to find the right customization and balance of remediation and accommodation. Learning strategies and assistive technology can have a symbiotic relationship! Using results from Phsycoeducational Assessment and other medical documentation we will work together to find the right differentiated  instruction.
